Wheel Project 1
making a vase on the wheel...pretty advanced stuff!
Wheel Project 2
this one was made on the wheel, and the design was carved onto the surface when it was more dry. Beautiful!
Lace pressed onto clay
texture tile
wedging clay
carefully wedge your clay to get rid of air pockets
Stamped Bowl
The artist creates a border around the edge of the bowl
Reversed Initials
Carve letters and numbers backwards so they print out forwards when stamped in clay!
Leaf stamp
The popping out leaf on the stamp creates an impressed image of a leaf on soft clay
Lisa Orr
LOVE her work! Very layered, thick glazes over raised surfaces with tiny pictures hidden all over the surface. (I've also met her--she's very nice!)
Patti Warashina
I loved her work when I was in college. Her focus in on figurative sculpture, very playful.
Adrian Saxe
He uses molds of gourds and fruits to create the bodies of his pots, then adds other elements--sort of a clay collage! This one has coral on the lid.
Michael Sherrill
This guy's teapots are amazing! Very complex...and functional, believe it or not!
"Scary"
This cup and saucer almost look like one sculpture!
"Hippie"
This cup and saucer shows the inspiring word so well!
"Hungry"
This is a more sculptural cup and saucer
Maria Martinez
maria's pottery
Flower luminary
Beautiful Piercings!
Green Luminary
Eyes Luminary
Look at the shadow this one creates!
Graphic Patterned Bowl
Dragonfly Mug
Three Narrative TIles
These tiles are connected by the landscape image
Single Narrative Tile
One tile, approx. 6"x6", square or irregular outside shape
Multiple Narrative Tiles
Three or four tiles, connected through a central image
slab dish
a flat slab rolled out, designed, edges folded up, small feet added to the bottom
Image
A simple image works best for this assignment
Pattern
Any of these patterns would work for this project
Cleaning Studio Tables
Cleaning the studio is essential for health
Pagoda
complex form with a base
White Lantern
this one is tin, but the scroll design is so beautiful!
Snake Pot
The snake creates a great leading line!
Native American Vase
Note the surface decorations, and how they relate to the culture
Flower Luminary
The flowers really show up well when the candle is lit up!
Green Luminary
The geometric piercings on this Luminary match the form really well!
Collage Example
many materials arranged on a page in an interesting way!
